vQuip's Partners with Outdoor Rec Insurance
The meeting introduced VQIP as a new partner offering insurance for commercial outdoor recreation businesses, with McKenzie explaining the 10% commission structure for new and renewal business. Ryan, the practice leader for sports and outdoor recs at VQIP, outlined their expanded coverage for activities like whitewater rafting and ziplining, starting in 2026. The team, including David LeClair and Devin Pike, discussed the process of obtaining quotes and binding policies, with Devin focusing on expanding insurance products to a broader audience. The session concluded with a reminder that the Q&A was open for further questions.
vQuip's Adventure Sports Insurance
Devin presented a comprehensive overview of VQuipuip's insurance program for adventure sports outfitters, highlighting their unique approach to addressing the challenges in the market. The program offers broad coverage at competitive rates by providing renters with their own insurance and using technology to reduce risk. Devin explained the various tools and operational solutions available to businesses, including an app for registration, safety briefings, and GPS tracking. He also detailed the performance-based rewards system that offers discounts for businesses that adopt more loss control tools. The presentation covered the types of coverage available, including general liability, inland marine, and participant insurance, as well as the broad range of vessel and power sports options. Devin concluded by outlining the typical process for getting started with the program, including digital submissions, quick turnaround on quotes, and involvement in the onboarding process to ensure businesses can effectively use the loss control tools.
Insurance Guidelines for Rental Properties
Devin explained that there are no specific exclusion areas in California for high fire risk, and clarified that while they can sometimes consider personal side-by-side rentals, their preference is for established rental outfitters with full-time staff and safety protocols. Devin also clarified that they can insure boats and golf carts used in conjunction with Airbnb properties in Florida, but prefer a business structure, and do not insure tiki boats or party barges that serve alcohol.
Water Sports Insurance Coverage Guidelines
The discussion focused on insurance coverage for water sports rental businesses, with Devin explaining their appetite for rental operations involving jet skis, pontoons, and other vessels, provided they have fleets of at least five vessels. Devin outlined that they can cover coastal and inland tour-based rentals, but exclude vessels exceeding 65 mph, party barges, water trampolines, and parasailing activities, while also noting a premium increase for operators under 18 years old. Ryan clarified that climbing walls must be permanent structures to be covered under their program.
Rental Business Insurance Solutions
Devin discussed insurance options for various rental businesses, emphasizing the importance of data and booking systems for underwriting. He explained that while they can provide coverage for newer operators, established businesses with larger fleets and good risk management practices are ideal candidates. Devin also mentioned that they are working on a solution for insurance in six states where road-use plated units present a challenge, expected to be ready in Q1 2026. The team addressed specific questions about dirt bike training, private property training, and various rental models, with Devin noting that each case would be evaluated individually.
