Smart Prefill: turn a document into a started quote
Re-keying customer data into a quoting form is the slowest part of quoting. Smart Prefill reads the documents you already have (a dec page, an ACORD form, a COI, even a photo of a form) and fills the Quote Connector application for you. You review, fill any blanks, and quote.
Which products Smart Prefill supports
- Personal Auto
- Workers' Compensation
- Homeowners (HO-3)
- Landlord (DP-3)
- Renters (HO-4)
- Condo (HO-6)
More lines are on the way.
How it works?
Look for the Smart Prefill button. It appears in several places so you can start from wherever you already are:
- Dashboard page on the Quote Connector banner
- Quote Connector page after selecting "New quote"
- Inside the Quote Connector application form itself, on the first step (Applicant Info for Auto and Property products, Customer Details for Workers' Comp)
- Appetite Finder results (classic and AI)
The first time through, you'll see a full banner explaining the feature. Once you've tried it or dismissed the banner, it becomes a compact Smart Prefill button in the same spot.
Then:
- Click Smart Prefill. A panel opens on the right.
- Add your files. You can drop in more than one.
- Submit.
You'll get a confirmation that processing has started. You don't have to sit and wait: close the panel and we'll notify you in the portal when it's done. If you keep the panel open, it updates in place with a link straight to the application.
You can also run several submissions at once without waiting for the first to finish.
What you can upload
Formats: PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, JPG, JPEG, PNG, CSV, TXT
Limits per submission:
- 10 MB per file
- 50 MB total
- 25 files maximum
Password-protected files
You can upload them. When we detect a protected PDF, DOCX or XLSX, a password field appears on that file's tile. Enter the password and submit as normal. The password is used once to open the file. It's never stored and never logged.
Older DOC and XLS files might cause some problems with detecting whether file is password protected or not. Save them as DOCX or XLSX, or remove the password, and try again.
If some files work and others don't
We don't throw away the whole batch. We build the application from the files we could read and tell you which ones we couldn't, in the portal and in the email.
Reviewing your prefilled application
Prefilled applications appear in your quotes list with the status PRE-FILLED.
When you open it:
- You always land on the first step, so you can check the data from the top.
- Any field we couldn't fill is highlighted in yellow.
- A bar at the top tells you whether there are blanks to fill or whether everything came through.
Review before you submit. Smart Prefill is fast, but the document is only as good as what your customer gave you.
What Smart Prefill won't fill at the moment
- Workers' Comp underwriting questions. These are pulled live from the carrier and change by risk, so you'll answer those yourself. Everything in Customer Details and Business Info is covered.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Unsupported format | Convert to one of the formats listed above |
| File too large | Split it, or compress it under 10 MB |
| Corrupted file | Re-export or re-scan the original |
| Password protected | Enter the password on the file tile, or save legacy DOC/XLS as DOCX/XLSX |
| Incorrect password | The password didn't open the file. Re-enter it and resubmit |
| Nothing was extracted | The document didn't contain data we could map to the form. Try a dec page, ACORD form or COI |
| No appointed carrier | You need at least one appointment for that line before you can quote it |
| Timed out | Resubmit. If it keeps happening, contact support |
