How to add or disable a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method
You can manage your second-factor methods from your account settings — add a new one as a backup, switch from text message to an authenticator app, or update your phone number after getting a new phone.
Find your MFA settings
- Sign in to First Connect and verify your identity.
- Click your initials in the top right corner.
- Click Login and Security.
- Click Manage MFA
- For security, you’ll be asked to re-enter your password and verify with your current MFA factor before managing your MFA.
It's a good idea to set up more than one method so you have a backup. For example, use an authenticator app as your main method and text message as a backup.
- In Login and Security, click Add method.
- Choose Authenticator app or Text message.
- Follow the setup steps (see How to set up Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) with an authenticator app or How to set up Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) with Text Message).
Switch from text message to an authenticator app
- In Login and Security, click Add method and set up the authenticator app first.
- Once the authenticator app is verified and listed as active, find your text message entry and click Disable.
- Confirm. Your authenticator app is now your only second factor.
Always add the new method before disabling the old one. That way you keep access to your account through the entire switch.
Update your phone number (new phone or new carrier)
- In Login and Security, find your text message entry.
- Click Disable to remove the old number. (Will automatically prompt you to add another method.)
- Click Add method, choose Text message, and enter your new number.
- Enter the 6-digit code we text to verify the new number.
If text message is your only second factor and you no longer have the old number, the system will walk you through re-enrolling at your next sign-in. You may need your recovery code, so make sure you have it handy.
Disable a method
- In Login and Security, find the method you want to remove.
- Click Disable and confirm.
You must keep at least one second-factor method active. You can disable your only method, but First Connect will immediately walk you through setting up a new one.
